Here’s How It Works
Company A has a product that they want to promote. They offer an affiliate marketing program so people (like you) can help them advertise the products. When you apply for the program, you get an “affiliate link” that you can include on your site or blog. When people come to your blog and click the link they are taken to the company’s site. Whatever they purchase after clicking that link, you’ll get a certain amount of the sale.

But Here’s The Thing… The payment process varies depending on the affiliate program. The consumer doesn’t always necessarily have to purchase something for you to get paid. Some programs offer pay per sale, which was discussed previously. You get a portion of the sale after someone buys a product through your link. There is also pay per lead where you get paid after the consumer does the desired action, like signing up for a trial, filling out a form, or downloading something. This action isn’t actually costing the consumer money, but it’s valuable for the company so you get paid. There is also pay per click where you get paid based on website traffic to the merchant’s site. When the consumer clicks your affiliate link and heads to the merchant’s site, you get paid based on the web traffic.

Benefits of Affiliate Marketing

  1. Passive Income: While the initial setup can be daunting when your traffic strategy catches on, you will ideally not have to think about it much.
  2. Work from Home or Anywhere: You can finally become the wandering nomad that lives in the village in Thailand for a month before hopping on a plane to explore the great American frontier. You can work from anywhere with internet access. Not a traveler? Pajamas in your living room work too
  3. No Customer Service: You don’t have to deal with customers…ever. Maybe just concerned readers of your blog.
  4. Few Startup Costs: You just need a computer, internet access, and patience. Affiliate programs don’t charge you to participate.

.Overall, affiliate marketing is a great way to either earn some extra cash on the side or potentially quit your job and bring in money full time. While the initial setup may take time, once you find a rhythm that works, it’s a fairly easy way to make money.
